I just adore this old photograph. i love the semi transparent yellow layer sitting above the photograph. The grain, what looks like some light reflecting through the middle, the shadows above. I love how this photograph has no expectations, it just is. Perhaps this is why it turned out so brilliant.

Jesper Ulvelius

My gosh. Jesper, to begin with, is a BRILLIANT name. Secondly, monochromatic lighting, the division between white space and texture, the lack of contrast, and desaturation all together make Ulvelius' photographs so captivating. I want to secretly live in his photographs, hidden, submersed, soaking up the surroundings.

Today I taught morgan how to use a manual camera. Im unsure as to why he asked me to teach him. My memory of high school darkroom practice has almost been fully erased. Im also unfamiliar when it comes to posting photographs of myself, I am usually the one behind the camera. I've become quite fond of the floating umbrella photos, looking forward to playing around with those when back at uni.

Department of Eagles - 'No one does it like you', directed by Patrick Daughters and Marcel Dzama.

I'm not so keen on ghost faces, however I'm quite fond of the colour and choreography in this clip. Such a lovely contrast is evident, a specific atmosphere is set when the vibrants clash with the washed out sand. Costume design is brilliant. There is something about girls with guns, especially when the girls are wearing military skirts and high socks, lets not forget to mention the KK styled veils. Brilliant :)

I want to live here. In this amazing house. It looks very similar to the first official international Dada Montage Exhibition in 1920, which represented works of artists such as Hausmann, Hoch, and Baader. Assemblage was technique the Dadaists explored in the 1920s, combining the conceptual thoughts of ready-mades and the merging of collage. There were endless possibilities when it came to assemblage, yet objects were usually mundane such as disposable articles, porcelain shards, furniture knobs and wire mesh. The everyday objects selected by the Dadaists quite often reflected upon the technologies founded during world war 1, this was further explored using Dadaists collage, later merging into the surrealists period.

...Anyway back on topic (the house). Id love to live there, or even spend hours exploring the place. Pretty sure its near New Orleans. The bedroom looks so cosy, such a pretty view. So many interesting objects lay on the surface of these photos i wonder what could be found beneath. Id love to just scratch around, looking for whatever my mind wants to find. I hope my house looks like this when Im older.

May i ilk your Deer? Last night i witnessed a theremin and guitar duet at Ilk Bar, Collingwood. I loved the venue, the décor was lovingly selected to give off a humble and inviting vibe. It almost resembles an extended lounge room as sports trophies, grandpas television cabinets and taxidermy are seamlessly tucked into the venue. Did i mention the Theremin? such an understated, yet dramatic instrument, so fascinating.

Dadaists Poetry

Im addicted to Dadaists Poetry. How to?:

- Cut out the words from a selected article from a newspaper.

- Place the words into a cup, hat, shoe (anything goes here)

- Extract the words at random, one by one. The order in which they are selected is how they appear in the poem

I feel they give off a delightful mood, i find it so interesting that something that is picked at random can perceive such meaning and emotion.

Though I'm glad, as i enjoy the round look and unclean cuts between photographs. I hope to create a series of my friends rooms, print them 1 metere squared. More coming.

Escapists Suit

The Escapists Suit forces the viewer to consider what it means to transform the self into another persona. Although the desire to become someone else or live with numerous selves is not new, here i attempt to approach these ageless human desires in a new way. My piece asks: How can one live with two personas at the same time; both a self and an out-of-body split self? What is lost and what is gained in such double visions? What is imaginary and what is real?

The suit is designed for any human being living in a repetitive, highly structured life, constrained by the ideals of culture and success. The user is to wear the suite, submersing themselves in the underlying text, experimenting with the foreign objects kept within the briefcase, and trying on alter egos, thus projecting them into another realm of existence.

Viewing one of these performances would be so fascinating, it would take alot for it to leave your system. Perhaps i enjoy it due to Implied Violences 'manifesto': "Implied Violence makes plays that are not plays. We make theatre that may or may not be theatre. We generate pieces that are not rooted in an internal logic or a rigid structure that audiences may or may not understand. However, our work does not beg to be understood. We don't care to be understood, to understand is to lie."

Its disappointing that i cant get my hands on a full version of the performances,i would love to view them all as intended. The bystanders in this clip are so interesting to watch, so emotionless, even in the most violent part of the scene. I desperately want to witness one of these acts, and will try to do so when i travel.

Last semesters 3D project: Recreate an existing man-made object to scale using only card. I chose to make a record of my record player. Its not fully functional, however it can hold records and the needle can swing across to depict as if it is playing.

I recently discovered Wilkerton Design via Grizzly Bear's 'Veckatimest' album artwork.
What i love the most about this painting is the way colour has been seperated into chunks yet smaller shapes still exist within these 'blocks' of colour. I also enjoy the dirty style it has been painted in. The brush strokes are clearly visible whilst draftwork is left behind, revealing darker tones in certain areas.

We were all pretty happy with the end result. I found the aqua and brown compliment each other quite nicely. This little design came a very long way in such a short time. I'm proud.

Just adored viewing the installation work of Tv Moore. I loved the way the artworks set me in a specific mood. Being curious and edgy I crept around exploring all aspects of the rather intriguing installations.

I finished my Deer project, I created this one out of box board with a antique gold coating. Next time i will use wood for durability. I'm thinking of creating a 'hunters' room with all sorts of fake animals and objects.

I enjoy the pinks and blues throughout his photography. This has happened to me before, I believe this occurs when photographs aren't developed long enough in the chemicals or not washed off properly, leaving an uneven or blotchy appearance. I love the spooky feel it gives, it works well with such still landscape photographs.

There are some video clips I could watch a million times....
Here are my top 3:

1. LCD Sound System - Someone Great. Directed By Doug Aitken
Aitken's video clip for 'Somone Great' gently depicts love and affection without clouding an amazing song. Apart from the obvious physical acts of affection, the emotions of love are expressed though visuals that remind us of specific feelings. The first few seconds present a picturesque sunset, the flowing of the wind through the window, the soft diffused blur and touching of the sheets. This clip also reminded us of specific smells too for example the dusty records and the train station. I love the way Aitken has focused upon these experiences of touch and scent in order to achieve an emotional reaction.

2. The Presets - This Boys in Love. Directed by Casper Balslev
Casper Balslev depicts a delicate side to The Presets, with the use of slow motion film, and amazing effects. I adore the magical feel created by use of smoke, water and sparkles/dust, creating gentle, magical scenes that oppose to the violent fighting scenes. I love his use of blur and vivid focus on detail such as sweat, skin and sparkles, all aiding in triumphing the music rather than distracting the viewer from it.

3. Justice - DVNO

This clip for Justice's DVNO emphasises lyrics by presenting them in logo format. Every time I view this clip I discover something new, I love the 80's feel retrieved from the tacky commercial logotypes. I also enjoy how there is a sense of adventure and movement as the perspective is whizzing through and past words, continuously delving deeper into the film, for example how the ball bounces back to repeat words. This flows gracefully to an end with footage of the artists playing piano followed by a sheet of paper being thrown, transforming into a final logo representing a J for Justice!

I wish to know the director or artists behind this...if you are aware of who they are please report back to me.

I'm lovin Wazenbi's wide range of brogue style shoes...or as they call them 'winklepickers'. Not sure if I've picked up on the name yet but the shoes seem to excite me!

Madeline Kragh, the model I was making such a fuss about in yesterdays post!
Thankyou to Sharday for reporting back to me. Just love her oval face and boy hair cut. If I was brave I would do this, yet I couldn't pull it off like she does. Somehow she still comes across so feminine in the least of make-up. Amazing!

Beer with colour.

Playing with colour.... Loved the blues in this snap I took, so decided to invite some warmer tones. In Photoshop I used the selection tool to grab square areas of the photo, then edited colour in the curves and colour balance features. I invited yellows, magentas and reds, then repeated this with various selections of the image untill i was semi happy. I used the layer mask to clean up the seams of these 'colour boxes', and used the curves tool to make the whole image darker, in attempt to rid of that harsh flash on my leg...yet it seems to have accentuated it

It didnt turn out how i like....oh well, theres always beer.

Above is Tres Flash's entry into Free Fridays weekly competition, this weeks theme Bird Attack. I love the paper that Tres Flash has selected, the fine grain contrasts delicately with the block white text, I also adore the fine trace lines around the text giving it a geometrical look. Its these finer details that are not taken lightly by Tres Flash.

James Cochran

There certainly is something about Cochran's work that cannot be depicted via the internet. When standing in front of his large scaled works a specific feeling comes over you. It may be the freeze frame appearance or perhaps the shock and admiration of persistence in his work that sets you into a daze.

You can be set into a Daze too! James Cochran's work is showing at the Lindberg Contemporary Art Gallery from the 27th June - 25th July. (Opening night Sat 27th June 5pm - 8pm)

Oh Deer!

I recently discovered a small stag sculpture in Japanese restaurant Wood Spoon (Smith St, Collingwood). I begun researching and found that they are becoming quite popular in home ware and interior design stores.I quickly became very intrigued as to the way they are compiled, like a three dimensional jigsaw, simelar to those dinosaur children toys. So in order to discover how these tricky little wall sculptures are made I've decided to create my own!

Here are the templates for my sculpture (stacked ontop of eachother). I am yet to cut out these shapes in wood, and find some way to connect them all to create form. I was thinking of painting the deer and finishing with a shiny top coat varnish, havent got a clue as for colours yet, got any ideas?...Keep you posted on my progress.

Right now I'm loving Aj's three-dimensional wood constructions. The characters appear Chinese in style, reflecting upon dragons a bears and many other mysterious creatures. I adore his use of colour and repetition.
